We have an excellent opportunity for a Finance Support Manager to join our Commercial and Finance Support Team here at Wokingham Borough Council, on a Full-Time, 12- Month Fixed–Term Contract.

As Finance Support Manager, you will manage the Finance Support function and team leaders to ensure a responsive support service to internal WBC customers, while working with the Head of Commercialisation & Finance Support to deliver the council plan and financial outcomes for our residents.

This role involves leading and actively contributing to commercial and finance projects, allocating resources strategically to support effective delivery of relationship and finance support functions, and ensuring customer cases are processed and resolved efficiently, with high resolution rates at the first point of contact. You'll support the ongoing development of staff through targeted upskilling and coaching, oversee and evaluate performance across the organisation, and ensure strategic aims, objectives and priorities for the organisation are met in line with service standards and guidance.

You'll develop a strategic approach to service delivery, maintain accurate performance management and reporting systems, and ensure all operations meet compliance with relevant financial policies, the Council Plan, and organisational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day to day performance and development of the Finance Support Team Leaders
    • Ensure customer cases are processed efficiently, consistently and with a strong focus on first time resolution
    • Allocate resources effectively to support operational priorities and service delivery
    • Work collaboratively with managers across the organisation to align financial support with the Council Plan
    • Contribute to and lead commercial and finance projects that drive service improvement and value for money
    • Support continuous improvement, change management and performance management across the service
    • Manage the Finance Support budget (c. £1m) and ensure robust financial controls

Candidate Requirements 

  • A degree or equivalent qualification, or significant relevant experience
  • Proven experience of leading operational services and managing people and performance
  • Experience of delivering service improvement, change management and complex case resolution
  • A strong ability to prioritise, work to deadlines and manage competing demands
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills
